I have a friend who claimed to have had a "spiritual" encounter last year. It happened on the night of February 14, 2011. He was laying in his bed at night when he felt something pushing him into his bed. He wasn't able to move, but the "spirit" was on top of him forcing him down into his mattress. He said he also heard a woman's laughter. He described the laugh as a friendly one, though. I do not remember the rest of the details of this experience because it was so long ago, but I remember that when he described it to me, I cried. He swears that he was not asleep when it happened and he was very disturbed by it. During that year he began having a very hard time sleeping. He would have nightmares of dark figures in his room, but he was well aware that those were only dreams.
This morning I got a text message from my friend again. There was another spiritual encounter last night. It had been exactly one year since the last time it happened. Again, he swears he was not asleep. This time, he was unable to move again. He could hear a violin playing, he saw movement of a dark figure, and he said he saw a light. I have not had the chance to speak to him in person and hear him actually describe the account, but I have no doubt that what he is experiencing is real.
How many of you out there have had a similar experience? How many of you believe that there are ghosts, apparitions, or spirits out there?
I am a devout Christian, and I believe that there are definitely angels and demons out there. The Bible tells us that. I have a hard time with this, because this means that it is either an angel or demon contacting my friend, and by the way it sounds, I don't think it is an angel. My friend is also a christian, which I believe means that a demon would have no control over him.
It is safe to say that I am very confused by what has happened. I would love any insight on this topic from people that share a similar faith with me.

I have definitely had encounters similar to these! 6 years ago my papa passed away. Beginning two weeks before he died I started hearing footsteps in my house when no one else was home, and I repeatedly heard the back door open and close, even though my parents were not there to open/close it. I remember several instances hearing someone walking down the hall, and when I turned to look out my bedroom door a black shadow went past. This happened constantly for two weeks. One day when I was getting ready in the bathroom I left the cabinet door open so I could get something out of my bedroom, and as soon as I stepped out of the room the cabinet door slammed. Two years later this all started happening again when my great uncle was dying. It also happened about a year and a half ago when my grandaddy passed away. It always happens when someone is about to pass away. At first it scared me REALLY bad, but then I got used to it. It was like a warning that someone I cared about was about to leave.

I agree with angels and demons, of course. But a third race? Who knows! I've had a few friends tell me of encounters and I don't see any reason not to believe it. But classifying it is another matter entirely! Some Christians tend to say things that "poo-poo" belief in ghosts, but I'm not one of them. Neither am I willing to say there is such a class that is separate from angels and demons.
I don't think I've lived long enough to know! Or maybe no one can know.
As far as I've ever imagined, I wonder if there's any possibility of a shadow or an in-between, where the spirit, obviously already taken to its place, is somehow modeled by some piece of the spiritual realm. A glitch, so to speak. An allowed glitch, of course.
But that's pure spectre-lation. ;)
